Family Spotlight: Daniela Guerra
Hello, good afternoon. My name is Daniela Guerra, and I am the mother of Daniela Acevedo who is in 7th grade at August Boeger and Daelyn who attends Rocketship School-Bright Minds.
I learned about the Puente de LEAF program at the programs I previously attended: PIQE Programs, LEAF Advocacy, and Everyone On Digital Literacy.
I learned about many topics in this program, but there were two critical ones. One was how to navigate financial aid. It was important because it helped me learn about the different ways of financing and how I can help my daughter continue with higher education, not close ourselves to the possibilities. Meeting other families with college students and listening to their experiences made us understand that things are more accessible than they seem or people say.
Another point was the successful adaptation to college because I learned more about communicating with my children, understanding their needs, listening to them, giving them more self-confidence, and helping them trust us parents so they go to college physically and mentally prepared. As parents, we must talk to them about the good and bad things they may face. We must be clear and direct with them because it is best for them to learn from our parents rather than risk confusing other people.
I would love to continue receiving these programs that teach me what to expect for my children and how I can help them to be successful. I would recommend to other families that if they are not taking this program they do so, in order to become involved with their students and have better knowledge of what to do for their students and support their future.
Finally, I would like to thank all the people who make this program possible. LEAF and the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley, who with patience and respect teach and guide us in every step that our children are about to take. Thank you again for your care and kindness shown in each program you offer.
Hola Buenas Tardes. Mi nombre es Daniela Guerra y soy la mamá de Daniela Acevedo quien cursa el 7o. grado en la escuela August Boeger y Daelyn que asiste a la Escuela Rocketship-Mentes Brillantes.

En este programa, aprendí varios temas pero hubo dos muy importantes. Uno fue como navegar por la ayuda financiera y fue importante porque me ayudó a conocer las diferentes formas de financiamiento y de cómo puedo ayudar a mi hija para que pueda seguir con su educación superior, y no cerrarnos a las posibilidades. Haber conocido a otras familias con estudiantes universitarios y escuchar sus experiencias nos hizo entender que las cosas no son tan difíciles como se ven o las cuentan.
Otro de los puntos, fue el éxito en la adaptación a la universidad, porque aprendí un más cómo dialogar con mis hijos, conocer sus necesidades, aprender a escucharlos, darles más confianza sobre sí mismos y con nosotros como padres, para que de esta forma vayan a la universidad física y mentalmente preparados. Como padres tenemos que hablarles sobre las cosas buenas y malas con las que se pueden enfrentar. Debemos ser claros y directos con ellos, pues lo mejor es que lo aprendan de nosotros los padres para no arriesgarnos a que otras personas puedan confundirlos.
Me encantaría seguir recibiendo este tipo de programas que me enseñan a conocer qué les espera a mis hijos y cómo poder ayudarlos para que tengan éxito. Yo recomendaría a otras familias que si no están tomando este programa lo hagan, con la finalidad de involucrarse más con sus estudiantes y tener mayor conocimiento de lo que podemos hacer por ellos y por ellos para su vida futura.
Por último, me gustaría agradecer a todas las personas que hacen posible todo este tipo de programas. LEAF y la Fundación Hispana del Valle del Silicio, que con paciencia y respeto nos enseñan y orientan en cada paso que están por dar nuestros hijos. Gracias nuevamente por su trato y amabilidad que nos ofrecen en cada programa que imparten.
