Elizabeth Victoria Evans

Elizabeth Victoria Evans has reached an impressive milestone by graduating from San Jose State University with a Bachelor's degree in Justice Studies, specializing in Criminology, and a minor in Deaf Education. Elizabeth's passion for justice and commitment to education have driven her to continue her academic journey as she pursues a Master's degree in Justice Studies at SJSU.

Reflecting on her time with LEAF, Elizabeth says, "Meeting up in a small group with other scholars from the career program was surprisingly fun." These interactions allowed her to build meaningful connections and gain valuable insights.

As Elizabeth embarks on this next phase of her academic and professional journey, we are excited to see the significant impact she will continue to make in the field of justice and within the community.

Esmeralda Salinas

Esmeralda Salinas has proudly graduated from Sacramento State University with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science. Her academic journey has been fueled by a deep-seated passion for understanding the political landscape and a commitment to advocacy and social change.

Throughout her time at Sacramento State, Esmeralda engaged actively in various political science projects and initiatives, demonstrating her dedication to learning and her drive to make a difference. Her studies have equipped her with a profound understanding of political systems, policy-making, and the importance of civic engagement.

Kimberly Garcia Cruz

Kimberly Garcia Cruz, a dedicated LEAF Scholar, has proudly graduated from San Jose City College with an Associate's Degree. Her academic journey is far from over; she is now preparing to transfer to either the University of California, Irvine, or California State University, Fresno. Kimberly attributes much of her success to the invaluable workshops and support provided by LEAF, which have played a crucial role in shaping her academic and career aspirations.

She is determined to secure internships that will enhance her skills and experience, and she has her sights set on attending graduate school in the future.

Kimberly's story is one of determination and ambition, and we are excited to see all the great things she will accomplish as she continues her educational journey.

Oscar Diaz Vega

Oscar Diaz Vega, a dedicated LEAF Mentor, has proudly graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. Reflecting on his journey, Oscar shares, "The most memorable experience I have had with LEAF during my journey to my degree has been creating new connections and friendships with other LEAF mentors." These connections have provided invaluable support and camaraderie, enhancing his academic experience and personal growth.

With his degree in hand, Oscar plans to embark on a career as a software engineer, aiming to secure a position that will support his goal of earning a Master's degree in the future. His story highlights the critical role of community and mentorship in achieving academic and professional milestones.

Paola Lozano

Paola Lozano has triumphantly graduated from Sacramento State University with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, specializing in General Management. Throughout her academic journey, Paola has been a beacon of support and guidance as a LEAF Mentor.

She reflects, "My most memorable experience with LEAF has been participating in their mentor program. Guiding fellow students through their college transition has been incredibly fulfilling, and I'm grateful for all the invaluable lessons I've gained during my time with them."

Paola's dedication to helping others navigate their educational paths demonstrates her leadership and compassion. Her experience as a mentor has not only enriched the lives of her mentees but also profoundly impacted her own growth and development.

Pedro Ismael Robles

Pedro’s journey is marked by his unwavering commitment to health care and community service. Throughout his studies, Pedro demonstrated a passion for improving public health and supporting underserved communities. His academic focus has been on acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to make a meaningful impact in the health sector.

Reflecting on his future, Pedro shares, "I will start by gaining hands-on clinical experiences through internships and jobs to advance my education and work in the health field. I hope to work with my community and help those who are underserved." His determination to gain practical experience and further his education highlights his dedication to becoming a health care professional who makes a difference.

His ultimate goal is to serve and uplift his community, ensuring that those in need have access to quality health care services.

Xiomara Quinonez

Xiomara Quinonez has achieved a significant milestone by graduating from Santa Clara University (SCU) with a major in Computer Science and Engineering and a minor in Entrepreneurship. Throughout her time at SCU, Xiomara played a crucial role as a LEAF Mentor, where she found great satisfaction in helping younger students navigate their college experiences. She shares, "My most memorable moment was connecting with younger students at SCU through LEAF. Being a mentor for these younger students was very rewarding, and it's nice to know that I helped make their college journeys a little bit easier."

Xiomara's dedication and hard work paid off when she secured an internship at FICO during her junior year. Impressively, this opportunity led to a full-time job offer, and she is now set to join FICO’s Solution Architecture/Data Science Team.

Xiomara's journey is a shining example of how mentorship, determination, and seizing opportunities can lead to remarkable achievements. We are excited to see the innovative contributions she will bring to the tech industry.

Yolanda Suarez

Yolanda Suarez's graduation story is one of resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment to her dreams. As an immigrant and DACA recipient, Yolanda has faced numerous challenges, but she never let them deter her from her educational goals. In May 2024, she proudly graduated from Mission College with a degree in Child Development, along with Master Teacher and Assistant Teacher certificates.

Yolanda's journey began in 2012 when she embarked on her path to higher education. Balancing her roles as a student, worker, and mother of three, she faced the added difficulty of pausing her studies to focus on her family. In 2019, she returned to her education with renewed determination and perseverance.

Her hard work and dedication paid off as she walked across the stage to receive her diploma, becoming a role model not only for her daughters but also for her community.
