Advocacy
Advocating for Educational Equity
At LEAF, we recognize the critical challenges faced by low-income Latino families, many of whom live in communities with underfunded schools and inadequate educational resources. These disparities contribute to a cycle of poverty that spans generations. To address this, we advocate for equitable funding in education, striving to provide every student with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities they need for a successful future. Together, we can create meaningful change and build a brighter future for all.
Why This Matters
What We Offer
Eastside Education Initiative
The Eastside Education Initiative (EEI) is a collaborative effort co-led by LEAF alongside key partners such as the Silicon Valley Education Foundation, the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley, and the Santa Clara County Office of Education.
The initiative has two primary goals:
Advocate for equitable funding for East San José schools.
Provide supplemental educational services to foster a college and career readiness culture.
Through EEI, we are building a movement to ensure that every student, regardless of their zip code, can access a quality education that prepares them for a successful future.
Town Halls for Funding Equity
LEAF also works alongside the Eastside Education Initiative to host Town Halls for Funding Equity. These gatherings bring together students, families, policymakers, and educators to discuss the importance of equitable funding in our schools. Through community engagement, we can collectively advocate for change and ensure that every student has access to a high-quality education.
Advocacy 101 Cohorts
LEAF’s Advocacy 101 Cohorts empower families to take action against the inequities in school funding in San José. These sessions educate families about the disparities in funding and inspire them to advocate for meaningful change in their communities. By providing parents and students with knowledge and advocacy tools, we aim to inspire a new generation of leaders dedicated to achieving educational equity.
My goal is to support my children so they can complete their education with the help of LEAF.
