Centro Educativo para Padres
The LEAF Centro Educativo para Padres is a unique program designed for Latinx families in East San José, helping them guide and support their students on the path to college and successful career development. We offer culturally competent, evidence-based, multidisciplinary programming that empowers parents and guardians with the tools and resources needed to actively support their students’ higher education journey.
We aim to build trusting relationships between parents, students, college administrators, and the LEAF team. As students and their families navigate the complexities of higher education, our center provides immediate, relevant support to address their most pressing needs. We believe that parent involvement is crucial to students’ adjustment to college, identity development, psychological well-being, academic success, and overall college experience.
Why this Matters
What We Offer
College Readiness Workshops
Our workshops guide families through the college transition, covering topics such as academic preparedness, financial aid, mental health support, the transfer process, and career exploration. We bridge the gap between families and on-campus or community-based organization (CBO) partner support services to ensure families have access to essential resources.
Individual and Small Group Support
We provide regular, individualized support to families, promoting a college-going mindset, fostering positive self-esteem in students, and encouraging social-emotional learning. Our consistent engagement strengthens the bond between students and their parents as they navigate the higher education experience together.
Parent-to-Parent Support
We train and support community parents to become advocates and leaders within their educational communities. By connecting parents to one another, we foster a network of culturally competent guidance and peer support to amplify the educational impact on students.
PUENTE de LEAF
PUENTE de LEAF is our summer transition program designed to support families with students preparing for their first semester of higher education. This initiative underscores the importance of postsecondary education and equips families with the knowledge and tools needed to advocate for their students throughout their academic journey. By empowering parents to champion their children's education, we strengthen their ability to support academic success and future career development.
