As Senior Family Engagement Coordinator at LEAF, Wanis leads efforts to empower first-generation families and students through the Family Engagement and Advocacy programs. He facilitates workshops that guide families on navigating financial aid, career development, and mental health resources. Wanis also plays a key role in educating parents about the systemic racism and inequities impacting first-gen Latinx families in East San José and across the U.S. Through LEAF’s first advocacy campaign, he championed the rights of mixed-status families, providing direct support, advocating alongside coalition partners at state and national levels, and organizing letter-writing campaigns to address FAFSA accessibility. His work continues to unify and mobilize the community against these inequities.
