LEAF’s New Director for the Center for College Success: An Empathic and Powerful Addition to Serving East Side Students

Brittany Alvarez has been sorting out educational opportunity gaps across the country for over a decade. She comes to LEAF after serving as the College & Career Pathway Director at the Foundation for Hispanic Education and working to desegregate Advanced Placement Programs with the nonprofit Equal Opportunity Schools.

She has a (data-driven) vision with student voice at the center.

Brittany uses direct feedback from students and staff as the foundation of her strategic planning and leadership. She has deep, direct experience in program development for underserved communities and first-generation college students, specifically supporting college enrollment, persistence, and socio-emotional development.

Brittany will launch the LEAF Center for College Success and its first program, the LEAF Scholarship. This program’s core components include a robust network of peer mentors, college partnerships, and community volunteers supporting 150 students in its first year.

Our new Director holds that LEAF’s work isn’t done until under-resourced Latinx students can access diverse career opportunities. She’s fearlessly reinventing programs and policies to provide the stories and knowledge needed to close opportunity gaps at scale in Silicon Valley and beyond.

LEAF is thrilled to welcome her as the Director of the LEAF Center for College Success!
