The Team at LCCS is made up of some truly remarkable individuals, including our fabulous College Success Advisor, Jazmin Dominguez!

Jazmin has been interning at LEAF for over a year, handling anything and everything including our social media presence, individual student support, facilitating workshops for students and mentors, and so much more.

She graduated from Latino College Preparatory Academy and is currently finishing her final year at UC Berkeley studying Public Health and Public Policy, after transferring from Evergreen Valley College. She is a remarkable individual and has participated in numerous internships, work experiences, and scholarship programs. She has served as a Spanish language interpreter, participated in the UC Davis Prep Medico Program as a summer intern, was selected for the Fung Fellowship at UC Berkeley as a Research and Design Fellow, and worked at Ravenswood Family Health Center as part of the Health Career Connections program.

As a first-generation college student, Jazmin has navigated numerous programs and opportunities and has seen so many incredible successes.

“Navigating the educational system has been difficult, especially having to figure out resources and opportunities on my own. Due to my educational struggles, I recognize that many low-income and first-generation college-bound Latinx students do not have the resources or support as more privileged students. LEAF fosters an environment that increases the number of underserved students in higher education and how to navigate it. Not only do they focus on helping Eastside San Jose college students, but their parents as well, on how they can best support their students as they navigate the college system. I’ve learned the importance of educating both the guardians and the student on why education is so important and ways to navigate the educational system that was not built for students of color.”

Jazmin plans to continue pursuing her passion for medicine and become a Physician’s Assistant.

“I want to work on addressing the inequities and tackle the disparities that exist in communities of color. Specifically, learn how to improve the health of communities of color before they step foot in a hospital.”

She also plans to continue working with students like her who need support in navigating higher education. LEAF has been so lucky to have her on the team, and we cannot wait to see all that she continues to achieve!
